One Iowa move, start to finish.

No stock photography. These are the movers from Iowa who would be on your job.

  1. Protection goes down first

Runners, jamb pads and corner guards before the first carry.

  2. Wrapped before it moves

Every piece gets a blanket and shrink, not just the obvious fragiles.

  3. Strapped for the miles

The load is built in tiers and tied off, so nothing moves on the highway.

  4. At your new door

Placed where you want it at the far end, on the date we committed to.

What we do

Pick the level of help you want.

Iowa leans toward long distance and storage. Retiree moves to Arizona and Florida frequently need goods held while a closing completes, and rural moves benefit from full packing because a farmstead inventory is usually larger and more varied than the bedroom count suggests.

Get my fixed price
  1. Long Distance

Interstate and cross-country moving, end to end. We plan the lane, handle the paperwork, and unpack you at the other side.

  2. White Glove

Our highest tier of service. Packed, carried, unpacked, placed — down to the pictures back on the walls before the crew leaves.

  3. Residential

From studio apartments to five-bedroom homes. We disassemble, transport, and reassemble — and we never leave before everything's in its place.

  4. Commercial

Commercial relocations run overnight or across a weekend, so the business closes on Friday in one building and opens on Monday in the next.

  5. Packing & Crating

Museum-grade packing for art, antiques, and anything fragile. We build custom crates on site when off-the-shelf won't do.

  6. Storage

Climate-controlled, 24-hour-monitored units in secure facilities. Short-term overflow or long-term, fully insured and inventoried throughout.

Pricing

What shapes the price of an Iowa move.

Anyone quoting an Iowa move sight-unseen is estimating, and estimates get revised at delivery. So rather than a rate card, here is what actually decides the number. All of it appears as a line in your written quote, and the total on that quote is the total you pay.

01Distance and lane
Your route sets the floor. Our Iowa lanes run from about 270 miles to Minnesota out to roughly 1,680 miles to California. Sharing a trailer with other households costs less than a dedicated truck; a dedicated truck buys you a delivery date instead of a spread.
02Access at both ends
How close the truck can park is half the labour. Narrow streets, walk-ups, booked-out service elevators, city permits, and shuttling from a legal parking spot in a smaller vehicle all take crew hours. We measure the approach at both ends during the survey, not on the morning of the move.
03How much packing you want
How much of the packing you hand over is yours to decide, and it changes both the price and the odds of a clean delivery. Cartons built for a cross-country haul are packed differently from ones carried down the street. Plenty of customers pack their own clothes and books and leave us the kitchen, the artwork, and the fragile shelf. Crating for oversized or valuable pieces is a separate line.
04Storage between dates
A gap between handing over one set of keys and getting the next is normal. Storage-in-transit covers it: goods stay inventoried and sealed until your date, with the holding cost agreed before the truck loads. For furniture, instruments, and electronics, pay for the climate control.
05Valuation and protection
Two levels of protection exist on any state-line move. Released value is included by law at no charge and is calculated by weight. Full Value Protection is the paid upgrade: repair, like-for-like replacement, or cash at current market value, and the right answer for a household carrying real value.
Local notes

What Iowa does to a moving schedule.

Local conditions decide how an Iowa move actually runs. These are the four that come up on almost every job we book here.

STEP 01

Roads & access

I-80 and I-35 make interstate access straightforward, and most Iowa towns have wide streets and easy truck approach. The genuine constraint is rural: gravel county roads soften badly in spring thaw and after heavy rain, and farmsteads set a quarter-mile off the road often cannot take a loaded tractor-trailer. Those moves get a shuttle, planned in advance. Mississippi River bluff towns like Dubuque have steep grades that limit truck options. Main corridors: I-80, I-35, I-380, I-29.

STEP 02

Timing your move

Peak is May through August with a sharp spike around university turnover in Iowa City and Ames in mid-August. Winter is genuinely cold — loading at 5°F requires shorter shifts and careful handling of anything brittle — but roads are cleared efficiently and availability is the year's best. Spring thaw is the underrated problem: soft gravel roads and flooding along the Mississippi and Missouri can force route changes in March and April.

STEP 03

Who is moving, and why

Iowa runs a modest net outflow, concentrated among young adults leaving for Denver, the Twin Cities, Dallas, and Phoenix. Des Moines is the exception — the metro has grown steadily on the strength of insurance and financial services and pulls households from smaller Iowa cities and from Chicago. Retiree outbound moves to Arizona and Florida are a consistent seasonal pattern.

STEP 04

Licensing to check

Interstate moves out of Iowa are federal: look for an active USDOT number and FMCSA authority. Ours are USDOT #4575745 and MC-1820728. Movers operating only inside the state answer instead to the Iowa Department of Transportation Office of Motor Vehicle Enforcement — a registration that is not authority to take your belongings across the line.

Good to know

What catches people out in Iowa.

Three recurring ways an Iowa move gets costlier than expected. None of them are surprises to us; we check each one before the quote is written.

01

Gravel road load limits

Many Iowa counties post seasonal weight restrictions on gravel roads during spring thaw. A loaded trailer may be legally barred from your driveway in March even in perfect weather, which is why we survey the route.

02

Farmstead shuttles

Long private drives are the norm outside the metros. We plan a shuttle from the nearest hard-surface staging point and price it in the original quote.

03

I-80 consolidation window

Cross-country trucks run I-80 daily. If your dates are flexible by a few days, an Iowa shipment can often catch a passing load rather than waiting for a dedicated one.

FAQ

Leaving Iowa: your questions, answered.

The answers people ask for before committing to an Iowa move with any interstate movers.

Usually, but not always in March and April. Spring thaw softens gravel county roads and some counties post weight limits. We check the route and, where a tractor-trailer cannot make it, quote a shuttle from a paved staging point up front.

About 1,400 to 1,600 miles to Phoenix or Tucson — 6 to 10 days consolidated, 3 to 4 days dedicated. This is a common retiree lane, and we can split delivery and storage if your Arizona closing date is later than your Iowa move-out.

Yes — January and February have the best availability of the year. Loading takes longer in extreme cold and we use extra floor protection for snow and salt, but Iowa road maintenance is reliable and weather delays are uncommon.

Yes. Small apartment loads ride as consolidated shipments, sharing a trailer rather than taking a dedicated truck. The mid-August turnover week is the hardest date in the state to book, so plan six weeks ahead for it.

Yes — and the licence you need depends on where the truck is going. Crossing a state line requires an active USDOT number plus interstate operating authority from the FMCSA. Ours are USDOT #4575745 and MC-1820728; both are public on the FMCSA's SAFER database, and you should look them up before any money changes hands.

Purely local movers hold a the Iowa Department of Transportation Office of Motor Vehicle Enforcement registration rather than federal authority. The difference is not paperwork pedantry — an intrastate-only registration does not permit anyone to carry your household out of Iowa, and it is the gap we most often find in quotes customers ask us to look over. Two further questions are worth asking anyone: whether the quoted price is binding or an estimate open to revision on delivery day, and whether you are hiring a carrier or a broker. We own the trucks, employ the crew, and quote binding fixed prices.
